Work is defined as the amount of force exerted over a certain distance. Because the problem already gives the value of force and the distance the for is exerted for, these 2 quantities are to be multiplied to obtain the amount of work done. This is shown below:

Work = Force * distance
Work = 50 N * 5 m
Work = 250 J
