For example, significant pointe work, high extensions and turnout of the legs. Marius Petipa's work on Tchaikovsky's 'Swan Lake', 'Sleeping Beauty', and 'The Nutcracker, typify the period, leading to Petipa's nickname as 'the father of classical ballet'.
